Chapter 224 Elgin
Provided by Lou de Almeida Chapter 224
There are lots of options for riding in groups. It really should be up to the group leader to make the individual feel comfortable. The group that I ride with has riders both men and women*, of all levels of experience - we have a couple of people who are just in their 2nd or 3rd season of riding and others who have been on bikes for 40+ years.
You will find that, come the good weather, there will be rides every Wednesday evening for ice cream runs - we try to hit a different local (SW Ontario) ice cream place, every week. Rides normally start at 6:30 or 6:45. We have been using the Tim Horton's by Costco on Wellington Road), and ride for 45 minutes to an hour, and then have ice cream, and shoot the breeze. Note: Be sure to check the Forums for the latest Start Location
There are very frequently rides on Fridays for lunch as well - that appeals to the retired folks and those that have Fridays off of work or decide to play hookey. Those tend to be a bit longer - an hour to 90 minutes - and we'll travel to some great smaller mom and pops for lunch. Those rides tend to leave from the Tim Horton's at Airport Rd and Trafalgar. Note: Be sure to check the Forums for the latest Start Location
And there is a group that also rides out of Costco Tim Horton's on Monday evenings - 6:30 or 6:45 starts. They also head to local ice cream parlors and/or Tim Horton's. Note: Be sure to check the Forums for the latest Start Location
I ride frequently with all of these groups and have so for the past 3 years and I can tell you that there have never been any incidents on any of those rides - again, attended by people with various levels of experience. If you just want to "test the waters", just come on out to one of the events and see if you are comfortable, then decide whether you want to join that group. Of the first three options above, I am pretty certain that all of the groups would welcome you.
